Slow Printing On Vista- using USB connection

Using a Canon LaserShot LBP5000 printer, all the drivers are up to date and it works.
But it takes several minutes to print anything.
PC is clean and running at a reasonable (Vista) speed.
Have tried reinstalling the drivers but still extremely slow.
Any ideas?
