Small Business Server 2003 Exchange mailbox

I had a mailbox attached to a user that I had deleted. The mailbox in the stores is shown marked for deletion.. When I recreated the user, a new mail box was created with the same email address. (I stupidly used the wizard and not active directory). There are messages in the old mailbox marked for deletion that I am attempting to retrieve. I did search for help and found that creating a new user with no mailbox would allow me to reconnect to this user. However, now when I attempt to do that, the ExchangeDN value is already in use (I’m suspecting by the duplicate mailbox). Any suggestions?? I really need to retrieve those messages! Thanks for any help.
