SMS 2.0 client installation avoid!!

I know in sms 2.0 before sp2 was released the clients were being installed automatically 🙁 I am really trying to avoid that now in my new setup. So, after installing SMS 2.0, then the two SP2 hotfixes, then SP2, how can I stop SMS to push out it’s client sw to my wrksns (in case it happened again)? I just want 20 machines at a time(each night) with certain IP addresses to get installed automatically (over night). Which option under client inst. methods do I turn on, and how do I give a range of IP address clients to be installed? Is it gauranteed to work?
