So long, good bye, and thanks for all the fish

As word has no doubt already spread, CNET laid the axe to 10% of its workforce yesterday, and your friendly neighborhood Trivia Geek was one of the casualties. Thus, this will be my farewell post as an official representative of CNET and TechRepublic.

I have worked here 7 years and 7 days. For the majority of that (6.5 years) I’ve been the author of Geek Trivia. As I leave, my colleagues tell me that the GT column will shutter. Don’t be too hard on those left behind, they refused to let the column go on without me. That was a compliment I’ll never be able to repay.

Geekend will go on, however, though I don’t know in what form. Be nice to the new folks that start posting there–professional geekery takes a while to get right.

To those folks who were once called TRIs, Beth is still here for you. Mind your manners, as she’s having a tough go of it, being the last girl standing. You guys made it fun to come to work most days, keep doing the same for her.

I’ll be out on the Web somewhere soon–a personal blog, most likely–without my CNET-required neutrality and politeness to hold me back. Watch my TR profile page for updates.

Strangely, I really will miss you people. Keep safe, keep well, and keep on keepin’ on.

Jay
