Sound card

I have a compaq presario 7360 running windows 2000. I have no sound. There is a sound icon in task bar. Computer says ESS Allegro PCI Audio (WDM) is working properly. Volume controls are set high. Do I need a new sound card? Where do I get one and is it easy to install?
