Sound Problems

Any sound being played on my PC is coming through twice. The first time is normal but the second time is often very faint and slightly overlaps. It varies in different situations but it can actualy slow my PC noticable when it get out of control.
I’m using a simple Soundblaster PCI 128 card and I’ve disabled the onboard and the microphone (even though I don’t have one)
Any ideas?
