Spool32 locks up system

I have a system that’s running Win98SE that when you try to perform any printer related function (print, remove a printer/add a printer, etc.) the system locks and I get a “Spool32.dll has caused a page fault in Kernel.dll” (that’s not word for wordjust me trying to remember the message exactly).

I tried re-booting, both a cold start and a soft start. no luck. tried the old “let me get the file on my computer trick” and replaced the current spool32 with one from a “healthy” computer, didn’t work.

I used to software application errors and trouble shooting NIC cards, hard drives, , motherboards,etc. But I’m a newbie with spool32 errors.
