SQL 7.0 REPLICATION

I am testing performance of SQL 7.0 replication. After a 6000 “update” trans was successfully replicated to the source table (~10 minutes), performance monitor on the source server continuously show high disk and processor performance that lasts for about 15 seconds and then repeat the same 5 seconds later.

This unusual activity seem to stop only when the server is rebooted or SQL services are stop and restarted. Any ideas?
