SQL Server using phantom email account.

We are using MS SQL Server 7.0 with all patches. The DBA that configured that system is no longer with the company and his email account has been removed.
The system does not have an email client installed or configured. The server sends a messagesdirectly to the SMTP Mail server using “his account and profile.” Like I mentioned earlier the account has been deleted.
I am still getting email blasts from this account. It is driving me crazy. We just recently editied the registry and and replaced this username and account with a valid one and it did not repair the problem.
