Until recently I had a CCTV DVR which I could access over my home LAN and via the Internet using an Android app on my phone. I setup port forwarding on my Draytek 2862ac router, then all I had to do was supply the app with my fixed IP address, the port and password and I could connect.
I’ve recently had to take up a Starlink service as my landline speed is so bad. I’ve retained the Draytek router (because it’s setup with virtual LANs etc) and I now feed it from Starlink instead of my landline DSL.
However, as far as I can tell, there is now no way I can set things up such that I can contact the CCTV DVR thru the Starlink box from the Internet. After sniffing round the ‘net, this seems to be quite a common problem.
So, I have the generic question….is there an easy way this can be done?
Assuming not, I have a spare 4G modem and I’m wondering whether I can use this with a cheap data SIM for the sole purpose of being able to access my DVR over the ‘net utilising NoIP. So the DVR plugs straight in to the 4G LAN port.
However, I also continue to need local access to the DVR on my LAN.
Sooooo, is there a way to link these two LANs (the Draytek LAN and the 4G LAN), so they are completely independent but CCTV data can pass between them?
Or am I on completely the wrong track? You will, by now, have realised I’m not an expert. Just enough knowledge to be dangerous!
Thanks for any help in advance.
