Step-by-step how to setup this group?

I have a functional Windows XP Pro system. I need to learn how to connect (as a client) to a Windows 2K DHCP server. This is my son’s project, but my online access is suffering while trial & error prevail. Is there a concise step-by-step guide available? Our computers acknowledge each other but I can’t get to the internet through the server (Windows 2K DHCP). What needs to be done? Thanks for your assistance.
