Stop Error 0x24

Ok I am so hoping someone can help here.

I have a Compaq Presario 1700 (XP home)

When it starts it goes to the XP screen then the Stop error 0x00000024 appears.

Fully it reads:
STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001901FD, 0x80F194D0, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000)

So i find out it is to do with the NTFS file system and to run chkdsk (with both switches /p and /r) and this all goes well until 44% then i get an error message says:

“the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems”

Can someone tell me what to try next as this HDD has so much important information on it.
