Stop HTML page from refreshing

I’ve got my initial home html page that comes up. When a user clicks on an image that starts up another page, the new page comes up and the original home page refreshes itself. Is there anyway to stop the original page from refreshing each time? I’ve got some startup up wave files and javascript that I only want to run one time.
