Storing Public Records

How does your organization store and maintain public records?
I work at a network service provider and have been receiving inquiries from our customers about solutions on this subject. Our staff seems to be divided in two groups: those of us who thing we should stay clear of folks public records because they don’t believe there is a viable solution to address the management of a very gray subject and those of us who thing that a good application out there that can get the job done has got to exist.
I would appreciate or thoughts or experience on this matter.
