Strange drive mapping

by james_crawley1981 . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

Hi, I have a problem with a strange drive mapping. I’m running Server 2003 with XP machines in a school. The children log on and their home directory which is \\server1\jsmith$ (or whatever) is mapped to the F:\ drive.

This has always worked fine but recently I’m having occurances of kids logging on and instead of the F:\ drive saying “jsmith$ on server1” it says “Disconnected Network Drive”. If I right click and try to disconnect it says it cannot connect to the network. The bizarre thing is, when I double click on the icon it links to a completely different share on a different server on the network (\\server2\installfiles$). The installfiles$ share isn’t mapped to F:\ anywhere, on any servers or workstations so I’ve no idea where it’s getting it from. If the kid reboots the machine and logs on again it usually works OK.
I’m most puzzled by this so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.
