First, for those of you that format and start over please don’t respond!
For the real tech’s, this is really wierd. I have a Win ME box with Celoron 1G CPU (don’t say it), 384MB ram, Gigabyte MB (VIA chipset). 2 Hard Drives, DVD, CDRW, Gforce4 w/64MB, ATI TV card, 3 case fans, 400W power supply. McAfee VS and firewall 6.0 with latest dat files.
Here is the issue, at times the PC will begin to pause by that I mean the mouse will act sparatic and come to a hault at times. The computer doesn’t lock up or stop responding it just kind of pauses. After a second or two normal operation restarts. The stranger part is the clock will loose time. Like right now it’s 4:00 and the PC time is at 3:42. If I reboot all is back to normal. Right nowI’m letting it go just to see how far the time will be delayed.
What I’ve done,
Checked battery and poewer supply to be at correct voltages.
Replaced 800 MHz CPU with 1 GHz.
Changed video card because the original had a cooling fan that wasn’t working well. Glad I have a slot fan that assists with AGP cooling.
Reinstalled pretty much all the drivers for MB, mouse, video etc.
Scanned every file on the system to check or viruses.
Disabled system restore.
Stripped down running programs and services to bare minimum.
This usually occurs at random times and I haven’t been able to pinpoint an event that starts the problem.
Help or suggestions?
