My name is Kgotso Gaamangwe a Citizen of Botswana.
I am a graduate engineer: Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I completed it in Dec 1997.
Since then I have worked for the national Telco Botswana Telecommunications Corporation from Feb 1, 1998 till Feb 28, 1999 as a Graduate Data Communications Engineer.(Wide Area Managed Data Network)
From the 5th of March 1999 till 31st October 2006, I was with Debswana Diamond Company doing IT Technical Support (Graduate Trainee), Mining Systems and Network Administration.
Since March 1, 2007 to date i.e.30 Jan, 2010. I have been working as an ICT Network Manager for the Southern African Development Community(SADC) Secretariat.(www.sadc.int)
During my career stint with Debswana I realized that technical people do not easily end up in the Corporate Executive Board Room especially , very technically smart people.
I have have since completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Business IT, awarded by NCC Education in January 2010. I am currently pursuing an Msc in Strategic Business and Infor Systems with Dissertation submission on the 27th April 2011 the only remaining thing.
Goal:
1) To land a strategic plumb job as a Strategic Manager of any kind, in any environment (Strategic CIO, would be a bonus).
2) Used the Msc knowledge to run my ISP since I will now be both technically well rounded and strategic business savvy at the end of my employment contract.
Questions:
1)What formal qualification are required for strategic and business savvy CIO’s?
2)What mentorship and growth mechanisms should organizations have in place to develop potential Strategic CIO’s of tomorrow ?
