Sun & Cisco forgotten password

I’ve a Sun ultra 10 and a Cisco 1700 router.
The person incharge on both this hardware have left.Is there any I can login into Sun Solaris 8.0
under root because I did not have the password and other user account.
So do for my Cisco router,do i need to dismantle my cisco hardware?
Pls advise.
