Switch or Hub

I have a small office of 8 computers running Windows 98. We are going to finally network them together with a single file server and a print server. We’ve been reading a lot on the subject, and will try this ourselves, and I understand that I could use either a hub or a switch. A consultant who is helping us said we could use either but suggested we use a switch. what’s the difference between a switch and a hub?
