Synchronizing profiles in W2K

I have an NT4.0 (sp5) Primary Domain Controller. We have several W2K workstations. We have another domain tied to the network by T-1. Some of our users have the need to log onto the other domain at times. The problem is that when they log onto the other domain (W2K only) the machine brings up a different profile. How do I make the profiles match in both domains? We are soon creating one domain and merging these two together. I forsee problems in making the W2K machines log onto the new domain while retaining the users’ local resource settings. Any tips or resources suggested?
