System Alarm

I just installed a new HD (13.6GB) and now the system “beep” alarm goes off rabdomly for a consistant 1 1/2 mins. Everything runs fine while beep is in process, but slightly slower. I’ve tried everything and am stumped. Any useful tips would be appreciated.
