T60 Com port error for Modem

I am trying to fix an IBM T60 Modem is not seen by software works in Hyperterminal, any Connection for the Modem sets up as Com1 the Modem is com 3 it has Windows Xp and Verizon Extend 360 VPN is trying to use it, But internet connection wizard couldn’t find it either, does anyone know of a registry hack or a quick fix for this problem, Modem has been reloaded on labtop since problem started
