W98SE TAPI reinstall
Somehow the previous posting was “closed” without a useable answer.
Is there any way to reinstall TAPI under W98SE without reinstalling the whole system?
Likely files have been modified by a virus and can no longer access COM1 via TAPI
I used to have an internal modem but it has been removed. This is not a question of drivers.
I no longer have access to COM1. The usual test would be to run Hypertrm.exe, which reports cannot connect with com port. The Hypertrm developers indicate this is a problem with the TAPI interface which is part of the operating system, between the system and the hardware, due to system files being changed or damaged.
Telephony applications often provide their own TAPI – I’m not using any. I just need to use what is normally provided by Windows without which the system cannot communicate with the com ports. My research indicates TAPI cannot be reinstalled separately with NT, but can’t find any reference re W98SE.
thanks in advance
