TCP/IP- Win98 client can authenticate to

by johnm . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

*** SENERIO ******
10 Clients running on NetBEUI network. File and Print sharing work just great.
Users are authenticated by NT-Server4.0(PDC).

Added TCP/IP to the existing NetBEUI Network.
-Clients have valid static IP addresses (Block of 12 addresses.)
-Each Win95/98 Clients TCP/IP settings are identical regarding; Subnet Mask(255.255.0.0), Default Gateway, WINs(none), & DNS configuration.
-DNS – Host Name: is the ‘computername’ of the client. Domain Name: is ‘blank’.
-DNS -One DNS Server is listed.
-DNS is enabled.

(Also, connected a router to the the Hub. Set as the Default Gateway in the IP Client settings)

*** PROBLEM ****

** Win95 clients works great. They can log into the network. Clients can browselocal servers & browse Internet.
** Win98 client don’t work!! With DNS enabled, clients are denied access to log in. If I disable DNS, we can log in, but can’t browse the WEB.

I thought of implimenting a DHCP Server. Then the clients would get authenticated first
