Telephone Phishing

by ozi eagle . Updated 20 years, 11 months ago

Hi,

I originally posted this on the Q&A page,

“I have had a couple of phone calls recently, and when I answer I get a message along the lines of “I am sorry to disturb you this call was meant for an answering machine”.

Has anyone any idea what this is?:- ”

The following is a disturbing reply that I received.

“I would think it was a way of getting to reuse your dial tone, like this I call you (hook flash) and use your conference feature while on an inbound call and redial to another location may be abroad? I have never heard of being able to call on the DO Not call list and leave a message.”

I felt that it would be a good topic to discuss, maybe giving more information and with possible ways to prevent your phone being misused this way, being put forward.

Thanks
