Test server in workgroup

by jefton5 . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

Hi Everyone
I’ve searched this site for info as well as google but could not find exact instructions, so I decided to call for help in my own post.

My requirements:

I want to setup a SBS 2003 R2 server for testing and to show the features to my boss and other IT colleague. I already have a machine for testing purposes plus one client machine.

Current environment:

We currently work in a Workgroup environment which is why we want to move to a domain and we feel SBS is maybe the right way forward. The current infrastructure runs off one XP machine running as a ‘server’ from which all files e.g. sales etc is shared via mapped network drives. The infrastructure runs off four BT ISDN 2e lines (UK).

The expectation is to not disrupt the current setup but run the SBS server and client machine ‘seperate’ from the current network but we need the internet access of the current network obviously.

What is the best way to set this up? I’ve read about VMWare en Virtualization but don’t know how these things work.

Thanks
