The famous VISTA vs. XP connection problem…..with a little twist.

So…..

I had an XP, well two actually, and I got a Vista. They had problems connection, but i got them to work quite well actually. Now, a second Vista comes home and what do ya know?…. it doesn’t connect! Wow, what a surprise! Well… the way I solved the problem last time with the first Vista, I bough a new router since my old one stopped working and i used the CD to configure the Vista with all the stuff it needed and it worked!

PROBLEM: after using the same CD on the second Vista, it doesn’t connect properly, let me ferther explain:

My problem computer (i will call it V2 (Vista 2)) can see my first Vista computer (V1) and can access files on it, but the opposite doesn’t work. V1 can see V2 but cannot access files with that stupid message “…is not accessable…..you might not have permission…”

If that isn’t enough. my XP computer (XP) cannot access V2 but is fully connected to V1.

Simply put in an equation:
V1 –> V2 NO
V1 –> XP Yes
V2 –> V1 Yes
V2 –> XP NO
XP –> V1 Yes
XP –> V2 NO

Also…(yeah, I know, too many porblems)
With this CD from Linksys, I now can no longer see my Gateway, Subnet Mask, or IP Adress with Command Prompt: “ipconfig/ all”
But I can still “ping” computers. From V2, i can ping V1, from V1 I can ping XP, and from XP I can ping V1, all with 0% Loss.

Any suggestions?
– Thanks

P.S. – My second XP computer is not mentioned because it is currently not connectable, due to the ethernet connection in the room that we put it in is not working. Better to deal with 3 rather than 4 computers, I think!
