Thinkpad T41 problem with driver install

I swapped the OEM harddrive with another harddrive and after installing XP home edition it didn’t detect the network card. So I downloaded and intalled IBM’s driver for that specific network card but it doesn’t seem to work at all. Is there anything else I can try other than popping the old HD back in?
