I have a client who wants their network upgraded, and I am having a problem figuring out how it can all work out. Any help is appreciated!
They want dual internet connection for redundancy (Cable and ISDN backup). They also want dual routers for hardware redundancy, and a security device, and they only want Cisco.
My current design is the main internet connection going to router A, the backup to router B. HSRP set up between them, should Router A or Connection A fail. The routers are then connected to an ASA 5505, which then runs to a swtich, and out to the users.
My questions are:
First, are there any glaring problems with this?
I have never worked with HSRP Before, what sort of physical connection do these routers need to make this work? Serial? Or can the Fast Ethernet ports included work (Cisco 1812’s)?
Will the ASA take dual router inputs and know when router b takes over the virtual ip should router A fail? Or do I need a switch between them?
