Toshiba laptop freezes after startup

I tried to install Quickbooks disc and after restart the laptop with vista home premium booted and went to desktop then froze. Every once in a while I get on beep. The computer boots just fine each time then when it gets to desktop it is OK for a minute or so then freezes. Is this a hardware problem, virus etc??? Any help is appreciated.
