Trouble with Backup to Zip Drive

My zip drive (Iomega 250MB internal)seems to stop the backup procedure after about 70-80% complete. It also causes my PC (under Windows 95) to freeze completely, and I have to restart PC using hard reset. Any ideas what might be causing this and possible fix would be very welcome.
