Progress!
The temperature has been in the fifties the past two days. Finally. Yesterday was spent trying to reroute the flooding in the yard away from my house. Today was spent raking the leaves off the garden, among other things. Here’s the picture just for the hell of it:

I’m not sure that leaves provide any protection at all. Some of them are still frozen solid to the ground. It makes more sense to me to have the sunlight warm the ground but I’m probably going to have to rake leaves up there again in the Fall. To “steal” HAL’s phrase I have a SWMBO as well.
I hope I didn’t jump the gun and start working the garden too early. Temp’s are supposed to be in the 20 Low and 40 high range for the upcoming week. I’m not sure if that will hurt the roses or not. Since they’ve lived thru temperatures much colder than that they should be OK.
The good news is that I’ve room for a couple more roses. Now I just have to squeeze my budget and see if I can find the cash. I need to buy dirt for my other project too so it’ll be dirt first, plants second. Logical, right?
It felt so good being outside that I started to clean out another garden plot. I haven’t any pix for that yet. No big deal anyway. Dead grass mostly though there are some Iris in the back. I burned out some of the grass but it’s still too damp and frozen to burn out more. After I get the grass out I’m going to throw on a few bags of manure and topsoil and rake it all level. Any flowers I buy are going in there but no food. That’s where my cat and dog are buried. I’ve always wanted to make it look nicer than it is but due to me having a bad case of lazy bones :^0 I haven’t done anything. My wife was always the gardener of the house but this year I got bit by the bug.
Last year I listed and identified every kind of bird I’ve seen within six miles or so of our house. I have the Audubon pictures of them as well as a few of my own shots. I’ve “wasted” 😀 so much time that I can often tell which bird I’m hearing just by the sounds they make.
This year I’m going to take on a much more daunting task. I’m going to try to identify every plant that I have in my yard, weeds and all, and get specimen shots of them from the web and put that info into an OO.o document. I did that with the bird info and then put THAT into a letter to my drug-dealing Mother. :0 It probably put her to sleep reading it. :^0
I’m ready to get out of the house. I spent the lion’s share of my day out there. You might see me “here” at TR but I might just be logged in while doing other things.
At this point I’d like to say that a TRGC Part 2 seemed like a real good idea. When a discussion grows beyond 250 posts they tend to become cumbersome.
Can we agree that starting a continuation of TRGC is a good idea after a certain point? I guess if nobody shows up here it’ll be an answer.
