I just bought a used IBM server few days ago, and i am trying to install windows XP pro on it. But i am new to the SCSI hard drives, and the way they work. This server comes with SCSI ultra 320, RAID level 1, if i am right.
I played with the BIOS for a while, and found many differences, i don’t see any scsi drives on the bios, and on the boot sequence.
I found i could press CTRL+ C and a menu ( during the Post) will come up, ” LSI logic MPT SCSI set up Utility”
LSI logic Host Bust Adapters
I am assuming this is where you set which drive should be master or slave? Because it says Boot order, mirror status etc.
I was able to get the computer to boot up but it comes with Uniware 7.1.3 ( completely strange for me) and i get the usual log in screen, sort of like DOS.
Anyways, if i try to install windows xp, it will not detect the SCSI drives, if i press the KEY F8 or F6 not sure. while windows is loading the drivers to begin the installation. It asks me to insert a disket drive A: with the drivers for the scsi disks. I have the CD from IBM but is a whole cd and it doesn’t fit on 1.44 MBS?
What can i do, is windows XP compatible with SCSI RAID 1. ( Mirroring) or not..
Any help would be highly apreciated.
I am even on the right track here? I am so used to IDE hard drives, i haven’t even catched up with SATA.
