Turn off backup verification

Hi there
We are using Symantec Backup Exec 12 on our server. I am just wondering how I turn off the verification procedure, as our backups are taking quite a long time (over 12 hours). Not sure how much time this will save, but I have been informed that we don’t have to verify the backup every day.
Can anyone help?
