Two Netgear Routers – No Tech Support

by haaron . Updated 19 years ago

Hi all. I am presently using a Netgear FVS318V3 wired router with no problems. I just bought a Netgear WNR854T wireless router.

I called Netgear support to ask how to make the two routers work together and they tried to charge $35 per hour… Blood pressure is almost down…

Anyway, I have some understanding of networking, but not a lot.

I want to insert the wireless router behind the FVS318V3 router and enable wireless network access and internet access through the modem plugged into the internet port on the wired modem.

My wired network IP is 10.94.111.1. My question is: should I assign a dedicated IP to the wireless router, and if so, do I then disable DNS on the wireless? With DNS enabled, I can get the wireless router to assign IPs, but there is no internet access through the wireless router.

I have the wireless router (internet connection) plugged into a port or the wired router.

Appreciate some here folks.

THanks,

Hank
