Two scanners stopped working

by cemal.ekin . Updated 17 years, 9 months ago

I have had for some time an Epson 2450 and Canon FS4000 scanners connected to my computer running Windows XP. They both stopped working and I discovered the problem first on the Epson, today on the Canon. I have done the following with no success:
1. Uninstalled the device from the device manager
2. Turned the device off, and restarted the computer
3. Turned the device on
4. The computer recognizes the device and proceeds to install a driver for it
5. I approve installing the software even though the source is not identified (or something to that effect)
6. Then I see an error message that says:
There was a problem installing this hardware.
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19)

I have seen several references to Code 19 related to CD or DVD drives. Apparently the registry can be manually edited. I looked in the hardware keys and found the imaging devices but do not know how to proceed.

Any help will be much appreciated.
