Unable to boot, Explorer Page Fault

What could be causing a page fault at boot time in the Explorer module?? System is
unable to complete the boot process and is thus inoperable. I tried to install Microsoft’s tax program from last year and this problem has ensued every since. What if anything can I do to get back into the system.
