Unable to browse Win2K Domain

by chrisn . Updated 22 years, 10 months ago

I am unable to use Network Places(WinXP) or Network Neighborehood(Win9x) to browse my Win2K servers on my Domain. What I have found: I am able to browse all nodes from my Win2K DNS Server. I am unable to connect to the domain from any other server without first adding the IPX/SPX protocal, this protocal is not loaded on the DNS server. I am able to browse all nodes other than my servers from any client machine. I am unable to view even my DNS box from my client machines. In the event I add IPX/SPX to a server I am then able to browse that server from any workstation. I can ping all nodes with no problems. I have setup WINS – No help, so uninstalled it again. When I run a nslookup from a client machine displays corrent DNS server name and IP address however nslookup search comes back with “Non-existent domain”. IPCONFIG shows all correct information on client, and after I ping the full DNS name and then run ipconfig /displaydns I get all correct information for the DNS server. DNS server has 3 NIC each with a different IP, NIC 1 has NetBios over TCP/IP enabled the other two are disabled. In the event that I disable either NetBios or IPX/SPX on a client box I receive the same error message that I get at the servers stating that thedomain is not accessible. If I disable NetBios over Tcp/Ip I am unable to see my NT4 domain. I am able to logon to the network and have access to all network resources via UNC names. Any ideas to the resolution of this problem would be great. I can attempt to provide any other information you may need, however I am not very knowledgeable with DNS and I am assuming this will be a DNS issue.
