Unable to log unto domain

I have recently upgraded a machine from win98 (which by they the way was able to log unto the domain) to Win2k.
The server is a win2k advance server. when I attempt to change the network properties from workgrp to domain … the system prompt for auser and password that has the proper
access level to make the change.
I have created a machine account on the nt server but I am still unable to change the properties from workgrp to domain.

Any suggestions
