Unable to open Word session with Citrix

In Citrix we are using AUTOSTART to give the users an open WORD session.
However in opening Word from within an user application it will mot always take over the original Word session and the system seems to hang.
A workaround is to close both WORD sessions and start WORD from within the application which alwuys works.
Can anybody shed some light opon this?
