unable to select only one desktop icon

clicking one desktop icon selects a group of desktop icons. The same occurs when opening a file and a group of files open.
This occurs accidentally. Rebooting slolves the problem for a while.
Have changed the keyboard and mouse but does not solve.
Semms related with burning or USB devices

Has anyone a fix?
