Upgrade to XP Pro

I am going to upgrade a box to XP Pro from XP Home. My question is will a OEM disk such as Dell containing the original Win XP OS that was loaded can an upgrade still be done. I have completed tons of upgrades on systems that already have the software loaded. I have never started the upgrade process and when asked to verify the previous version inserted a Dell disk to see if it will accept it.
