upgrade xp home to xp pro

recently purchased vaio sony computer went to upgrade from xp home to xp pro everything went well to it started up and then it tells me not enough virtual memory and shuts down and restarts repeatedly..can I undo the upgrade with out doing a complete restore and lose everything or can I add more virtual memory without doing a restore?
any advice would be greatly appreciated…..
