Upgrading coax network to cat 5

We currently have our NW 4.11 network running on coax cable. I’m looking into upgrading at least the main part of our network to cat 5, and have some questions I hope someone can assist me with.
Planning on using coax as backbone to hub in a central location, then running cat 5 cables to workstations. Any problems with this? Know switches are supposed to be better than hubs, but can I hook the coax to a switch? (media converter use, maybe?) I can get a hub that will connect to the coax directly. All this needs to be done as well as can be done while not spending much!
