Upgrading Pentium III CPU

I am attempting to replace two 500mhz Pentium III CPUs with two 850s.

But, I cannot seem to be able to remove the old Pentium IIIs.

The are held in with a Grounded Retention Mechanism and I cannot get the pins out.

What is the trick?
