USB 2.0 PC Card Freezes Computer when downloading from CF card

I have a edimax 32 Bit Cardbus 480 mbps 2-port usb 2.0 pc card EU-PC2C
When I try to download pictures from my CF Cards (I have 4 diffrent ones 2 GB each) it downloads about half then freezes up the computer. I have tried this 10 times already. I have checked for viruses there are none. I have checked for spyware. None. Took the computer off the internet still happens. I tried downloading from my camera and got the same problem. When i connect the cf card reader which i have two of and have tried them both with the same results to the back of the computer which has a 1.0 usb port it works fine. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I am running explorer 7.0, Windows XP, Service Pack 2
