USB -Ethernet converter and a scanner on the LAN

I have a non-networked USB scanner going into a small office. Normally I would just hook it to a PC and that would be that.

However, because of space issues, the scanner is some distance away from the PC, to the point where it may exceed USB cable length specs.

Is there any way to connect a non-network USB scanner to a PC using a USB ethernet converter on the LAN?

I found these converters online http://www.globalsources.com/manufacturers/USB-Ethernet-Converter.html and thought that even though I can’t assign an IP address to the scanner, there may be a way to attach it to the PC using these converters and a network (Cisco) switch.

Has anyone used these converters with a corporate LAN and a USB scanner?
