usb keyboard stops working during xp setup

I was installing windows xp on a computer with no ps/2 ports. I got a usb keyboard and mouse. I got to the graphical part where there is mouse support. I can use the mouse but the keyboard stops working.
I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!
