USB Peripheral Failure to Communicate

by kcav . Updated 22 years, 2 months ago

Would like to print multipaged documents on inkjet printer in quick quality mode using black ink. Have printer attached to 4-port USB hub. The printer works until it is necessary for it communicate back to the computer. Then not only does it stop printing, but I am unable to delete the job even when I disconnect the printer. When I try to uninstall the printer using the Add\Remove software facility in Windows 2000 I am told the printer is in use. When I go to Task Manager and try to stop the job from running its protected. I can reboot and delete the printer software but after I reinstall it I am back where I started. I ask Device Manager what is wrong and I am told all devices are working properly.

What seems to be missing is I don’t know how to trace what files that are being accessed when I send commands to a peripheral device connected to my USB hub. So I take out Microsoft’s Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit book. Its 3″ thick. So look in index and I find out that on page 1627 there is information about USB Topology. Its an overview that refers to website for more information. I feel like my life is going to be over before I findout how to monitor cummunications through my USB ports. I like to see how much bandwidth is being allocated and track the commands being sent, particularly unsolicited communication back to the computer. Can somebody help me?
