USB Printer Issues

I have a USB printer CanonS100. It used to work properly up to about a month ago on my pc. Then it started to give the error “Printer not responding”. I thought it was the printer and went and bought a HP2600N. During the installation it does not even detect the printer on the USB port when i turn it on! I’m using Windows XP Pro SP2, have a MSI K8MM-V board and I have checked the device manager and all the USB ports are working properly. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Thanks
